The qualification required to become a part time CFO is a degree in finances. This can be a graduation degree or even better a post graduation degree. Once this is achieved, the basic knowledge of theory is complete. The next step is to have enough experience so that a responsible position as that of a CFO can be taken up. One should have a minimum of 15-20 years of experience in managing the finances for different companies along with some experience in managing the institute. It is an added advantage if the person also has had a full time experience of the post of the Chief Finance Officer.

This is the driving force behind their working and the steps taken towards managing the company's finances. They are required to make short term as well as long term plans meet the objectives of the company in the years to come and help it grow in the international market. All companies are driven by profit and the CFO is expected to make the most of it. They should have a high knowledge base and ideas for tax planning where a major chunk of the company's profits go.

The position can be at a better reach with a lot of references to prove your validity. This can only be present with the presence of a strong network with the people in different companies dealing in finance. The more difficult situations the person has been able to solve the better. It counts in the experience as well as the achievements which are very important for a company looking for someone who can turn the tide in the company's favor.

To add a feather in the cap, acquiring additional skills can be very beneficial. Although most of them would come automatically with experience, for those who are not proficient with them, there are various schools for learning. The most important is the communications skills which allows a person to talk to clients and subordinates with confidence understanding what they want to say and also making them understand your point of view. Second skill is the ability to manage people and the work done by them. All chief financial officers need to delegate work and also solve problems that might be faced by the employees working under them. It not only improves the working environment but also helps in increasing the working capabilities.
